We are beside ourselves with this feature in the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings / The Style Issue!  It was an honor to do hair and makeup for this gorgeous and joyful multi-cultural wedding; the bride, Hana, in a word…stunning. The couple’s story is one to behold…

It’s not surprising that Olu Ajijola, a cardiologist, and Hana Malek, then a trauma nurse, first met in an intensive care unit. It was 2009, and Olu, newly arrived in Los Angeles from Boston, came to Hana’s ICU to consult on a patient; he quickly found excuses to return to “check on him.” “I thought she was beautiful, and her eyes really struck me,” he recalls. The two had their first date three weeks later and were soon a couple.

Other events at an ER two years later turned out to be just as fateful. Hana had suddenly become ill and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. “Her voice on the phone, scared and sounding poorly, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever listened to,” says Olu. He rushed to see her, and they exchanged a wordless hug. “It felt like an eternity,” says Hana. “We’d known we loved each other, but we hadn’t made the leap to feeling we wanted to end our lives together. That night started us on the path.”

The two wine and nature lovers found the perfect venue in the Vintage Ranch, 200 miles northwest of their home in L.A., with its views of rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards… Few knew that Olu had carried that idea even further, engraving lines from Hana’s electrocardiogram into his ring to have her heartbeat always near.

Inspiring Arabic and Mexican Multicultural Wedding

By |2016-09-28T11:59:58-06:00September 28th, 2016|Featured, Real Wedding, Spotlight|

In a most spectacular sharing of two cultures merging in wedded union, this bride and groom do it right. Seamlessly blending Mexican and Arabic traditions with culinary delights, special dances, music and-of course- style; love couldn’t help but nestle in.

Photographer Luna de Mare offers this lovely perspective, “Located along the Central Coast of California, Sunstone Villa & Winery in Santa Ynez is the perfect backdrop for the wedding of your dreams. The peachy hues of French limestone, and lush grape vines in the vineyard offer a beautiful landscape as a setting for an al fresco experience. Melva & Ali chose to incorporate both their cultures into a blended affair, featuring Mariachis and Arabic Dancers. Their Ceremony took place at the Villa’s two giant Oak trees, with cascading Florals and Olive leaves in front of their closest friends and family, with a nod to both cultures.”

See how this heart-filled celebration, featured on Style Me Pretty, delights the senses.

Sun and sky Fall wedding palette featured on Style Me Pretty

How can one possibly recreate the sun and the sky for a starring role into a wedding color palette? These images with notes of peach, light blue, and hints of sea foam, photographed by Jose Villa, show you just how it’s done. Joy Proctor shares the inspiration behind Paola and Jon’s exquisite Sunstone Winery wedding…

Paola was inspired by the natural beauty of the Sunstone Villa and chose a color palette of warm sunset tones of peach and light blue to compliment it… A large wooden board with light blue seating charts greeted guests as they made their way into the reception on the lawn. Guests sat at wooden tables covered in lush floral arrangements with beautiful hand dyed sea foam runners.

Lavender and Lilac Wedding Featured on Once Wed

Imagine the calm and serenity of this lavender and lilac inspired California wedding… the sort of tranquility that exudes sophistication and elegance. Nature is love’s most beautiful match, don’t you think?

We’re elated to have been a part of this lovely wedding, featured on Once Wed! Here’s what bride, Ashley, has to say about the inspiration behind it all…

My wedding style came together very organically— I let the seasonal beauty of the gardens at San Ysidro dictate the colors, florals, and food. I wanted the day to feel natural and not overly produced but still very elegant and special, so we went with loose floral arrangements, blooming branches, bridesmaid dresses in various styles, and a whimsical custom emblem designed by Happy Menocal. I never considered what my wedding gown would look like, so I went into the process with an open mind. I tried on many gowns at several stores and ultimately found my dress at a Vera Wang trunk show. The collection was inspired by Madrid, Spain, and the floral appliqué on the gown reminded me of the rose gardens at San Ysidro; it was an obvious choice for me. Also, it didn’t have any boning or structure, so I felt very relaxed and comfortable in it.

Romantic Santa Barbara Elopement Inspiration

Whether you prefer an intimate celebration with a small gathering of friends and family or a festive bash with a guestlist that overflows on the dance floor, there’s no denying the beauty and grace of a private elopement. A one-on-one deeply connected moment of uniting love in a ceremony of solitude…Sigh.  Photographer Mark Cluney thought so, too. And we’re so happy to have been a part of the talented team that helped to create from this vision. As featured in Green Wedding Shoes

Our inspiration flowed from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, “Breathing Dreams Like Air”. The golden light in Santa Barbara provided the perfect backdrop for a natural arbor of fluttering dreamcatchers and ethereal florals. We love that dreamcatchers represent the bond of life with no beginning or end and wanted to have all the beauty arise from that sentiment.

GRACEFUL WEDDING INSPIRATION IN MEXICO

One of the things that always speaks to us from wedding submissions is an elusive quality of grace and elegance, and we love to see this manifested in so many beautiful ways in weddings and editorials. Today’s inspiration shoot comes to us from Jose Villa, Sarah Winward and Laurie Arons, combining an old-Mexico feel (stunning architecture, stone walls, and wrought iron details) along with an effortless sense of grace. From the neutral toned flowers (which are anything but boring) to the foliage filled ceremony setting, we simply cannot get enough.Photography: Jose Villa Photography | Floral Design: Sarah Winward | Wedding Gown: Lihi Hod | Wedding Gown: Emily Rose Riggs | Cake: Sweet And Saucy Shop | Engagement Ring: Trumpet And Horn | Hair And Makeup: TEAM Hair And Makeup | Calligraphy: Anne Robin | Candles: Creative Candles | Custom Artwork: Karina Puente | Fashion Stylist: Summer Watkins | Floral Design Assistant: Gabriela Salazar | Food Styling: Diana Perrin | Graphic Design And Collateral Pieces: Amber Moon | Hair Extensions: TEAM Bridal Extensions | Location: Hacienda La Labor | Location: Hacienda El Carmen | Overall Design And Planning: Laurie Arons Special Events | Ring Box: The Mrs Box | Tabletop Rentals And Design: Casa De Perrin
