Really, all you need for the perfect wedding is the one you love, and this couple kept that in mind when planning their simple and intimate wedding at San Ysidro Ranch. Says the bride: “After years of attending and performing music at weddings, we knew we just weren’t the traditional type. It took two and half years of planning and a recent visit to San Ysidro Ranch, to finally realize we had found the perfect venue. We decided that three important criteria were essential for a blissful wedding day: being present, not being overwhelmed by mass amounts of family and friends, and surrounding ourselves in a small cocoon of love and support. Ultimately, we decided to elope with a magic thirteen members of close friends and family – it truly was perfection.”

The couple met in a Piano Ensemble music class in college.

After their first look, says Lauren, “we chose not to see anyone until the ceremony and having that quiet time made the impact of seeing our guests for the first time was wonderful.”

From the bride: “It rained the entire day of our wedding. Words do not describe the experience of it. Hummingbirds, glistening flowers and the soft patter of rain enveloped our ceremony. All of our guests were asked lay down an olive branch along with a blessing for us in the place where we were to stand during our ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Old Adobe House and we both entered the room at the same time, as equals.”

“Our dinner was held at the Stonehouse at San Ysidro Ranch on one family-style table underneath an awning of lights. The flowers were probably one of my favorite parts of our wedding, and each guest received a small box of See’s candy, a family tradition. Before dinner, each one of our guests toasted us, which lasted close to an hour. It was a moment we will never forget. After the most delectable dinner and chocolate soufflés we stayed awake until the morning talking about our wonderful day and left the next day for our honeymoon in Tulum, Mexico.”

Why did you choose this location for your wedding? San Ysidro Ranch is the most beautiful venue in our opinion. The food, wine list and ambience is exquisite.

Is there a standout detail or any surprises from the day? We had no idea it would rain the entire day of our wedding, but it truly made everything feel that much more special. Everything was perfect, from the flowers to the photographer/makeup artist and we wouldn’t have had our wedding any other way.

Do you have any budget tips for other brides? Initially, we planned on renting the lavender field for our ceremony at SYR but decided to use the Old Adobe Room instead. The Old Adobe Room only cost $400 for six hours. A total steal!

Did you include any traditions in your wedding? We used olive branches as a unique symbol of blessing as we are not religious. Our guests bought us, “something blue” gifts and we spent the morning getting ready in separate locations which made the first look a beautiful moment.

Montana Farm Wedding from Jose Villa + Joy Thigpen Part I

December 18th. 2012 by Abby Larson | 7 comments

It’s here! The day our pretty little book hits stands. The day that we’ve been nervous/happy/excited about for more than an entire year! The day has come and we are literally bursting on the insides with pure and total glee. So today we wanted to do something really special. We got permission from our publisher to give SMP readers an exclusive first look at the wedding that started it all. The picture perfect, can’t believe it’s a real wedding that we thought was so absurdly special it deserved nothing less than to grace the pages (literally 26 of them) of a book. A tuck-it-in-your-bag, pull-out-over-lunch-with-your-girls kind of book. It’s this wedding that literally gave us the idea to write a book at all and we have it all here for you today…designed by the crazy talented Joy Thigpen with photographs by who else? Jose Villa. Who I call a genius at least twice a week.

Montana Farm Wedding from Jose Villa + Joy Thigpen Part II

You know, we are lucky. Like really lucky. Because our job is to write about beautiful moments. The kind of moments that people remember forever and ever. And if we’re being really honest, it feels a little unfair. As dozens of moms and dads are lost in grief right now and as parents, we find it incredibly hard to continue with the prettiness, when some people are dealing with such ugliness. While this isn’t at all enough, we wanted to let you know that we’re donating all proceeds from today’s book sales to the families of Newtown, Connecticut.

We’ve been celebrating the launch of the book with the wedding that started it all. That Joy Thigpen crafted to utter pefection and Jose Villa captured in photographs that will make you smile and cry and laugh simultaneously because they are just that beautiful. Rather than take up more of your time when I know you just want to see the goods, we’ll just dive right in!

Montana Farm Wedding from Jose Villa + Joy Thigpen Part III

And here we go, on to Part III of the amazing wedding that gave our first Style Me Pretty Weddings book life and took it from an idea to an oh-my-gosh, I’m holding it in my hands today moment. The perfect real wedding that Jose Villa and Joy Thigpen sent our way many moons ago, that literally helped turn our book into something real. Because it was so beautiful, we had to find the best possible way to showcase it. And to use it to teach other brides that no matter where you get married, no matter what your resources are, you can have a wedding that is as lovely as those you see on the pages of your favorite blogs. Or books. Remember, all proceeds from today’s online book sales will go to the families of Newtown.

There aren’t enough words in the English language to properly thank Jose Villa and Joy Thigpen. This wedding is what wedding dreams are made of and it’s the reason that I find so much joy in my everyday. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for letting me share it with the world! And to the bride and groom who let us in and gave us permission to have a front row seat…you are amazing.
