Fall Themed Wedding Ideas

There are a ton of reasons to love fall; hot chocolate, crisp weather, the changing of the leaves and of course fall weddings. Since the season is in full swing, we thought it was only appropriate to share all of Carolyn and Ryan’s fantastic fall themed wedding ideas. Held at the one and only barn wedding venue in Orange County, Strawberry Farm, the couple added a touch of western style to complete the look.

Wheat bouquets and boutonnieres, Cinderella pumpkin escort cards and an over the top fall themed dessert table are just a few of the fall themed wedding ideas you will find. You can see way more fun details in the full gallery here. All photographed by Orange County wedding photographer  Ashleigh Taylor Photography.

From The Bride
Hi Y’all! My name is Carolyn and I am the quintessential DIY bride. We got married at Strawberry Farms and Golf Course– it was the best of both worlds, the golf course for him and the big red barn for me. Our menu was southern food turned up a notch… we had wood smoked BBQ chicken, collard greens with fried pancetta and lobster mac ‘n cheese with truffle oil!

Half The Fat Dessert Table:
As for dessert, well you guessed it, I did it myself, with the help of my amazing culinary team. I just so happen to own my own bakery,
Half Baked Co. where we bake everything with half the fat, calories and sugar, but all the great taste. The dessert bar featured a variety of Fall themed goodies for the dessert bar from chai tea cupcakes to chocolate dipped pears to pumpkin spice cupcakes in mason jars and festive caramel apples. We also did a variety of cake pops, oreo pops and smore’s marshmallow pops that were displayed on moss covered tree stumps for a rustic feel, as well as hot cocoa mason jars with monogrammed stickers.

We displayed all the cupcakes on one of our disposable cupcake towers, which we ribboned with chocolate colored satin for a touch of elegance, as a more cost effective and trendier option to a big tiered cake. Then for the top tier of the tower we had a small old fashioned frosted 6” cake with a birds nest and 2 wooden loved birds that we found on Etsy and etched “Love” on one and “Birds” on the other as our cake toppers.

More About Half Baked Co.
Where we bake with half the fat, calories and sugar but all the same great taste!  We use only the finest ingredients in our deceptively healthy baked goods, such as whole wheat unbleached flour, applesauce in place of half the oil, almond milk instead of cream and lots of other healthy baking alternatives to give you the healthiest and yet best tasting product possible.  We carry a wide variety of vegan, gluten-free and reduced sugar options to cater to your every dietary need.

Hannah + Steve: A Santa Ynez Love Shoot by Jose Villa

By on October 10, 2012 in All Posts, Engagement Sessions

This morning we have the great honor of sharing some of the work of Jose Villa, one of the finest and most sought-after wedding photographers working today. Jose, who redefined the landscape of wedding photography with his fine art approach, works exclusively with the medium of film. He is known for his brilliant use of light—his images are suffused with a dreamily warm, transcendent glow—and a pastel palette inspired by the vivid blue skies and sprawling pastoral fields of his childhood, which was spent on a horse ranch in Santa Barbara. Though Jose’s ethereal images have a natural, organic, free-as-the-wind feel, there is a great deal of thoughtful artistry involved in crafting each and every photo. Yet, in our humble opinion, what truly sets Jose apart is not only his masterful technique but also the spirit that imbues his work. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art.” And there is plenty of spirit in Jose’s shoots, each one a small masterpiece.

Of all the breathtaking engagement sessions Jose has shot over the years, this remains one of our favorites, perhaps because of the way he captured the incandescent love between Hannah and Steve or translated the romance of the foggy Santa Ynez skies. As with all of Jose’s shoots, we could gaze at this one forever and never grow tired of it. Our words simply cannot do the beauty of these photographs justice, so we’ll let Jose’s images speak for themselves.

Bohemian Beach Wedding Inspiration

boho beach wedding inspiration

I absolutely love when artists decide to bring one of my inspiration boards to life and that is exactly how this shoot started – all based on this pretty Bohemian Beach inspiration board. With a love for intimate weddings and natural settings, Lavender & Twine and Twine Events set out to the beach to create a romantic elopement. With his love for surf and her love for the beach, they found the perfect location on a local beach that couldn’t have been more secluded and perfect. Oh, and fun fact – they spotted singer Jack Johnson surfing in the distance! Perfect music for a beach elopement, right?! 🙂 It was important to them to stay true to the natural elements around them as well as staying true to the couple. I love that the shoot is simple, playful and yet timeless.

I love that the tabletop for two consisted of both soft and rough textures – from the sea foam mint, fluffy peach garden roses, and ruffle linen to hardy air plants, rock and birch wood details.

Engagement Session Featured On Wedding Nouveau

  • Saree Engagement by Lacie Hansen

    Written by Fri F.

“We met on a Thursday night, had our first date and first kiss on Friday.  We said we loved each other on Saturday and decided to get married on Sunday.”

Those words by bride-to-be, Nicole Steakley, pretty much summarize her “boy-meets-girl” story with fiancé, Hiten Iyer.  Two years after that first date, their Santa Barbara beach engagement session (featured in the anniversary issue of Nouveau magazine) takes that cinematic romance to another level and was captured skillfully by photographer Lacie Hansen.

    HOW THEY MET:

NICOLE: Hiten and I had planned a weekend away in Ojai for our two year anniversary.  After our time there and on our way back to Santa Barbara, where we live, we decided since it was one of the most beautiful days ever…to take a hike up to Saddle Rock. This hike is one we used to take frequently when we first met. We loved it because once you reach the top, it is has the most amazing 180 degree views of the Santa Barbara coastline. It was also here, where we first talked about getting married two years ago, just a few days after we had met.

So, on our two year anniversary it was here at “our spot” where Hiten asked me to Marry him. Little did I know, that in the weeks leading up to this day, Hiten had hiked this trail a few dozen times timing exactly how long it would take to get up to “our spot” & get back down, and most importantly in search of a secret shooting rock close by.

A few months before the proposal, I had mentioned how cool it would be to have a secret photographer hiding & taking snapshots of the proposal, capturing such a special moment. Hiten completely dismissed it as “the stupidest thing ever”, but I guess he remembered how much it mattered to me when our time came.

Hiten had been in talks with my dad, who is a world class outdoor & adventure photographer, and they had devised a plan.  From “our spot” above, we had an amazing view of everything, EXCEPT the hidden photographers, my dad with his telephoto lens & camera & Hiten’s best friend with his video camera, who were crouched far below, behind a rock & makeshift shrubs they had put up to hide behind. We have secret pictures and a video of the whole thing!! I had no idea of the secret photographers until we were headed back down the mountain, in a joyful daze. As we came around a bend, out jumped all of our closest friends, and both of our families, including my dad & Hitens best friend capturing the whole thing! I was completely shocked Hiten had coordinated our decent from the mountain to coincide with our families and friends surprising us in a small pasture at the head of the trail. I had NO idea that any of this had been planned & was overjoyed to see all of the people we care about the most here to celebrate the proposal! While Hiten was proposing, our friends & family had all set up a lavish feast of wine & cheese & ceremonial Indian auspicious foods. Hitens parents had also prepared garlands of flowers and a small alter, where we had an Indian “Puja” or ceremonial celebration. After tons of congratulations, hugs and kisses, toasts, we all went to a small bistro in Montecito to celebrate! The whole experience was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end & I am so happy we have photos & video to remember it forever!

NOUVEAU: Project ahead to your one year anniversary, or five or ten year?  What does it look like? What do you hope to have learned as a couple?

NICOLE: In the years to come we can’t wait to start a family, grow & learn together.  To share not only the big milestones but also be able to enjoy & savor all the small everyday moments.  As a couple, we have begun to learn how to respect each others opinions, and choices.  In the future we want to continue working on embracing these differences, whether they be cultural, or personal, and fold both of our life experiences & backgrounds into our children’s lives.

HITEN: I have learned how important family and community is, and have realized how incredibly lucky we are to have such a supportive network of people around us.  My ultimate hope is that our children can share in the love & joy we’ve found within each other and through our families and communities. In five years we hope to have a vow renewal celebration and bring everyone from our upcoming wedding back together. Only this time somewhere tropical!

With a september wedding in store, we’re on the edge of our seats to see all the details.  Congratulations to the lovely couple.
