2017 Bridal Beauty Looks to Inspire / Style Me Pretty Features Mar

2017 Bridal Beauty Looks to Inspire / Featuring TEAM's Creative Director, Mar, on her tips and tricks for hair and makeup styling - photography by Matthew Ree

It’s Friday, folks! And our very own Mar is heading up today’s Instagram Takeover on Style Me Pretty. She’ll be offering tips and tricks for hair and makeup styling, based on her feature in SMP’s 2017 Bridal Beauty Looks to Inspire (soooo good). Here’s a sneak peek into her tips for smoky eyes + crazy, fun hair…

Consider natural tones when applying “smokey” eyeshadow colors to your eyes. We like less smoke and more lashes – we LOVE fun and flirty false eyelashes! This is the key to this soft, yet dramatic, look. THM Hair Extensions were added in for the tousled “down do”. We waved the hair with a one-inch iron, wrapping wide pieces around the barrel and then allowed the hair to cool before literally tossing her hair up and down! Pin the sides up and you have some sexy waves, which will stay out of your face throughout your wedding. Or use the volume and texture to create an amazing braided updo for later (dancing time?!).

We called upon our favorite makeup guru, Mar from TEAM Hair and Makeup for her top party looks just in time for a New Year’s Eve debut and the best part? These could easily be translated into gorgeous bridal looks…Smokey Sensation

Foundation Tip: Ladies, our mothers were right when it comes to foundation…. Less is More! Use a dab of your favorite foundation along with a Taklon brush (designed for foundation) and when applying use gentle strokes going down. Blend with a mineral powder and you’re set!

Lip Tip: For the perfect pout, apply concealer on your lips first so your lipstick will blend and stay on all night. When using a bright color such as a red or a berry apply your lipstick on the outer edge of your mouth first then fill in, do this and your lips will look full without looking overdone or old fashioned with a lip liner.

Eye Tip: Smokey and Sultry, oh my! Start with the eye lid, apply your darkest color and as you work your way up go lighter and lighter until you are at the brow bone. Apply a gel liner around the eye then take your darkest shadow and gently smudge around your eye using a fine tip brush, apply mascara and at least 4 individual lashes on the outer lash line and voila! You have smokey eyes!

Vintage Flare

Eye Tip: The best way to be sure your eyeliner is spot on, is to apply a gel liner with a medium angle brush. Before the gel dries take a black eyeshadow and glide over the liner to create a rich looking dramatic line.

Lip Tip: Whether your “Vintage Flare” lip color is red, coral or berry always use a shimmery champagne to highlight your lips, add a touch of silver shadow and POP you have a festive shimmer to your pout.

Brows: To frame your face, use just a touch of color one shade lighter than your hair color to bring out your natural brow shape. Then grab a toothbrush, add a little hairspray to it and brush your brows into shape and make sure that brush ends up in your makeup bag and not your medicine cabinet!

Victorian Beauty

Lashes Tip: Patience is a virtue and so are your lashes! Enhance your natural lash line with individually placed lashes. Alternate between short, medium and at the very outer corner apply at least two long lashes to give your eyes a natural flare! Always use waterproof glue too!

Cheeks: Your blush color can be a tool to use to enhance the color of your eyes! Who would of thought using a pink poppy blush color could make your eyes POP! Well it can! Apply your blush in a “C” shape starting at the apple of your cheek going to the temple and blend! Add in a touch of yellow mineral powder just under the eyes for an extra highlighter, creating a higher cheekbone.

Lip Tip: Apply a lip stain in your favorite Holiday Red and smudge it on with your finger, apply twice for a deep matte shade, which will last all evening.

Beach Meets Chic

Cheek Tip: Apply a creme blush in peach, orange or coral to create a dewy sunkissed look. Take a gold shimmer or gold mineral shadow and gently dust over the creme blush for a festive and playful look!

Lip Tip: Gloss, Gloss and more Gloss! Apply your peach, orange or coral creme blush to your lips! Apply in two coats and set with a champagne gloss then gloss it up again in clear!

Brows: Au Natural can play too! Keep your brows as natural as possible. Focus on taming them not changing them! Brush your brows upwards (toothbrush works wonders) and then only remove the brow hairs which appear longer. Brush again and done!

And there you have it … perfectly steal-worthy looks for a night out on the town or even a skip down the aisle.

Get Sexy for Summer!

By |2010-07-27T08:00:45-06:00July 27th, 2010|Makeup Tips|

Summer is here, and TEAM is ready to help you feel your most gorgeous! Even if you’re cooped up in an office all day, or the weather where you live hasn’t felt like summer recently, summer is more of a frame of mind… don’t lose it before it’s over!
When we think summer, we think of tanned skin, beachy hair, glossy lips, brightly-colored clothing, and fun jewelry. You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money, go on a crazy diet, or spend hours upon hours tanning your skin. Getting your summer look should be simple and fun! Here are a few of our favorite tips to get you stoked for summer:

Pick up a new shade of nail polish! Try a color you’ve never dared to wear: hot pink, cantaloupe orange, or coral red. These shades all look hot with or without a tan!

~Get a tan! If you either don’t have time to lounge poolside to work on a tan, or you’re careful about your skin, there are tons of options to give your skin a boost of color! There are tons of self-tanners on the market that are inexpensive and won’t make you look Oompa Loompa-ish. Also, TEAM will come to you and give you an expert airbrush spray tan

~Go nude! When you have pretty tanned skin, you really don’t need much as far as makeup. Try a nude shimmery gloss, a coral cheek stain, and lots of mascara! Use a concealer that closely matches your natural skin color, just to cover any blemishes or dark circles. Enhance your tan by brushing a powder bronzer over the larger planes of your face: forehead, cheeks, chin. You’ll look like you just stepped off the beach!

~Let down your locks! If you typically wear your hair back in a ponytail or bun, shake it out, wear it a bit wavy, or try pinning back a few pieces from your face. It’s okay if it looks a bit messy, they’ll think you just went sailing!

Wow for Brows!

By |2010-07-26T07:00:56-06:00July 26th, 2010|Makeup Tips|

Wow for Brows! When I’m doing a clients makeup, I always start with the brows. I always ask the client, “Do you ever fill in your brows?” 90% of the clients say, “no,” and gives me a look like she’d scared I’m going to make her look like Groucho Mark. But after the full makeup is done, she always thinks her brows look fabulous!

Since the brows essentially frame the eye area, it is critical to pay attention to your brows. Especially when women become older, the brows tend to thin out, and become lighter in pigment. I always tell my clients about 50 years of age or more that the simplest and fastest way to take 10 years off your face is by filling-in your brows.

Jose Villa Mexico Workshop

That said, there are do’s and don’ts when it comes to brows.

DO’S:

-Go to a professional to have your brows shaped, if you have not had them shaped before

-Bring in a photo of a model or celebrity whose brow shape you like when going to a professional

-Consider having your brows tinted to match your natural hair color

-Use a matte powder like Smashbox Brow Tech, in a color that is one shade lighter than your hair color, to fill in the brow area in the most natural way possible, using an angled brush to apply the powder

-If tweezing at home, only tweeze below the brows and not above. Feel free to tweeze any hairs in the middle (a.k.a. the “uni-brow”)

-Do use a brow wax to tame the brows (apply with the same brush you would use to apply the powder). Again, Smashbox has a great product called Brow Tech that has both the brow powder and the brow wax.

DON’TS:

-Do not “over-pluck” the brows because they rarely grow back.

-Do not let professionals talk you into the following: shaping them too thin, cutting your brows (unless they are really long).. and if you’re unsure, DON’T TRY IT AT HOME!!

-Do not use a pencil to fill-in the brows. Brow pencils are oil-based, and leave too dark of a line. You don’t want the brow to look like a line. It should be a subtle “filling in” of the brow area. That is why matte powders are best for filling in the color!
